Two weeks ago, we saved a dog from the streets. He was abandoned by his owner, letting him starve for days and probably just waiting for the city pound to catch him.

I have always wanted to have dogs but I was worried about our 9 felines and how expensive it will be when we adopt one. But nothing stopped us from rescuing one.

Few weeks before we took him in, I already saw him wandering around the village, looking for food and shelter. It wasn't raining then. We gave him our leftovers and a bowl of water one time and since we have a huge Indian tree outside our house, he would lay under the tree to get some shade.

I told myself that if ever I see him again, it's a sign that he needed a new home and that he will be a part of our family. He showed up again few days later. Silly me-- I asked for another sign that if he goes back, we'd take care of him and that we'd bring him to the vet to have him checked up.

On a hot Monday afternoon, as we were about to leave for the vet for Sergi's (one of our rescued cats) check up, the dog appeared in front of our gate. Again, the universe gave the sign I was asking for! Few hours later, we saw ourselves with a cat and a dog in a veterinary clinic.

We named him Bigong. (real name is Bingo lol)

First vet visit
And now it's officially his 10th day with us today!

I can tell that he's a happy dog that gets along with other dogs and I guess with our cats as well. He is cooperative, affectionate and so easy to love!

Heikki (Hikong) meets Bigong
He is mellow and always willing to follow commands when we train him. He would jump on me whenever he gets excited especially when there is food involved. He loves taking a bath and loves to play his squeaky ball. I can't wait to buy him more toys just so we know what else he enjoys the most!

He is picky when it comes to his meds and vitamins, probably because of its taste. There are times that he'd just get over it and there times he'd walk away and completely ignore me but I solved that by mixing them with his lunch everyday.

Chicken liver and rice + Energel vitamins lol
Bigong doesn't like dermcare being applied on his wounds when he's not eating so Bani sees to it that he applies this ointment whenever he is, and it's easier for all of us.

His fur is growing back and he is quickly recovering!

Ointment application
Everything was so new to me. I learned that dogs are high-maintenance (food/shots-wise) and that they need more attention than cats.

Rescuing a dog was never part of our short-term plans (because eventually we will also adopt 2 dogs in the future), but here we are!

It's not an excuse whether we want a dog right now or not, it's a matter of showing him love and compassion that he truly deserves because no dog should be neglected like how he was. I'm so glad we found him; it's a wonderful and satisfying feeling that I can't explain.

Welcome to your new family, Bigong!
